Mind. Body. Action

Six-pack abs. Lean definition. Fat loss. Muscle Gain.

Looking Good - It's not superficial!

For some people their primary goal in training is to get fit and healthy or train for a specific sport or event. For others it's about aesthetics - they want to look better. My speciality is six-pack abs, lean definition and fat loss; so it's primarily about looks although of course you will still be fitter, healthier and stronger as a result. Some people may say that focusing primarily on looks is superficial: I disagree. If we exercise and are more confident in our bodies this will impact all other areas of our lives including our mental health. Having a six-pack does not in itself make you a wonderful person but it shows that you have a certain amount of discipline, commitment, control, motivation and focus. These are qualities that you can replicate in other areas of your life. A strong body goes with a strong mind.

Mental Toughness

Gym work, if it is to be successful, requires a certain mind-set, attitude and philosophy that keeps you committed and helps you overcome barriers and setbacks: this is called Mental Toughness. Let's be honest, gym work is not too complicated - it's basically picking things up and putting them down again. However, what is complicated is our motivation, emotions and commitment, this is why we often fail in our exercise and diet goals.

My background in psychological coaching and clinical hypnotherapy means that I am experienced in assisting clients to persist and persevere through challenging goals in life. A fit body requires a fit mind, so I will provide you with methods and skills to keep you focused during and between workouts.

Fat Loss and Muscle Gain

Many of us would like to lose weight and have tried various diets in the past. Rather than focusing only on weight we need to consider body composition. This means how much lean muscle and fat we have. My focus is on fat loss rather than weight loss. It's quite common for people to gain weight from gym and be discouraged even if they know muscle weighs more than fat. The more muscle you gain the more fat you will burn. My nutritional and fat loss advice is in line with national guidelines, therefore I don't advocate any fad diets. If you train hard and eat sensibly, the muscle will increase and the fat will go. Commitment and persistence are key.

Training Approaches

I apply a "whole body approach" to training. This means that all of you will be stronger, leaner and fitter. I will work with you to keep your exercise plan interesting, varied and effective. Approaches to training include cardiovascular exercises, High Intensity Interval Training (HITT), free-weights, resistance machines, kettle bells, suspension exercises (TRX), bodyweight exercises and calisthenics.

You Can Do It!

You may be just starting out or need to get more out of your current training or perhaps you are just disillusioned and frustrated with your progress. Getting in shape takes an investment in time and energy but the benefits are worth the effort. It's just a matter of committing yourself to action again and again. I'm over 50 and if I can do it, then so can you! You are welcome to call me for a no obligations discussion to see if I can help.

Exercise and Mental Health. Mind and Body.

Here's a confession. When I went back to the gym some years ago it was more for my mental health than my physical health. Exercise is proven to lift mood, reduce anxiety, fight depression, increase confidence and raise self-esteem. My aim is to assist you in becoming mentally, emotionally and physically, fitter and stronger in every way.
